ALMOND PARK PLAYGROUND
Are you familiar with that steep, windy part of Alma Street between West 16th Ave and Broadway? As a child, I used to shout “slide!” as my dad drove down it at a conservative speed. Enjoying that car slide can easily cause one to miss Almond Park, which is located right at the bottom of this hill next to a field and some tennis courts.
This playground thoughtfully has swings located in a separate area, away from the two main play structures divided for toddlers and older kids. The adjacent field is an on-leash dog park so puppy watching can occur while the kids have a snack on a bench. There’s also a short trail behind the playground that goes along the aforementioned steep hill, making it a sort of wilderness survival course if one’s kid veers off the regular path. Racing downhill can be treacherous as there’s a drop-off created by the retaining wall, so do keep that in mind. Otherwise, the bushes are convenient for little ones to take an emergency nature pee.
